Finding a balance between stylistic and realistic was the main challenge of this piece; on one hand I wanted the face to have an almost masklike quality while at the same time rendering the dress with a more literal approach. Yet another problem was to have the underexposed fleshtones work with the dark values of the fabric...

The finished version recalls a porcelain doll from the Victorian era and has a slightly eerie vibe, which I am quite proud of since there isn't anything overtly strange in the work, other than the mystery of why she might be holding a marble globe. All and all, a nice mix of hard and soft
